On Thursday, Nov. 24, Thanksgiving morning, seven members from the Sundancers will perform in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Seniors Vanessa Hollander, Amanda Garcia, Shelley Allen juniors Roxana Nowrouzi, Kaelin Brand, Theresa Burton, sophomore Shannon Soler, and freshman Cristy Ruiz will participate. Las school year, the Sundancers entered the Contest of Champions, an open and independent dance and drill competition held in Orlando, where they caught the attention of Spirit of America Productions. Due to their excellent performance at the Contest of Champions and their accomplishments in the School and Youth Recreational Cheer division in Florida, Spirit of America Productions, the company that organizes the parade each year, invited them to perform in New York City during the parade.
Both the dancers and their coach, Gerri Barreras, have worked tirelessly to improve their dance routines throughout the year. Barreras was overjoyed with the team’s accomplishment.
“It was such an honor to receive the invitation to perform and I am happy that this will be a part of the team’s wonderful memories,” said Barreras.
The dancers wait to participate in this honorable performance.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to show people my passion and talent for dance,” said freshmen Cristy Ruiz.
The girls arrived in New York on Nov. 19 where they have been practicing their routine every day for the upcoming performance. On Thanksgiving Day, the girls will start their morning at 5:00am for a quick rehearsal before the parade. Afterwards, they will take a subway to the line-of-march.
Watch them perform live on Thanksgiving morning during the Parade, beginning at 9:00am.
