Remembering Steve Jobs: an iconic figure in the technology

After hearing about Steve Jobs’ death, I wondered what would happen to Apple and if they would stray off of the path it took years for Jobs to establish. Former CEO and co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs was regarded as one of the greatest contributors to technology from the 1970’s to present day.  Apple products, such as the iPod, revolutionized the way we listen to music on the go.  Jobs was instrumental at revitalizing Apple, and coming up with its products modern, user-friendly approach to technology.  At times, I wonder if future leaders of technology will be able to surpass Jobs’ contributions to society.

According to an article on About.com on “Inventors,” early in their development, Apple sold their products at relatively low prices, much like other big corporations like Dell and Hewlett-Packard. Today, Apple is able to sell their products at a higher price without the worry of a loss in revenue. At the center of all this success was Steve Jobs, who had the ability to utilize his past experiences with Pixar and Disney to establish a renowned corporation familiar all over the globe. Although struggling at first to establish an identity, students can hardly imagine Apple struggling today.  From the introduction of the first Apple Macintosh in 1976 to their most recent computer, the MacBook Air, Apple products have come a long way, and one can safely assume they are in the forefront.

When looking at Apple products as a whole, the only word that kept popping up in my mind is “sleek.”  I admire Steve Jobs’ eye for a streamlined, smooth design rather than selling products with a bulky shape.  The iPhone, iPad, iMac, and MacBook are user friendly, with a variety of apps that allow personalization.  The idea of simplicity and practicality is seen in all of Apple products, especially with the iPhone 4S’ newest feature, Siri, a contemporary version of a personal assistant .

Steve Jobs, an authorized biography written by Walter Isaacson released on Oct. 24, offers insight on the life and times of Apple’s late co-founder. The autobiography shows how he viewed the technology industry and its biggest contributors.

Steve Jobs was able to help transform and revolutionize the way we view technology. I know I could always count on  the creativity of Steve Jobs and Apple to come out with the most cutting-edge and innovative piece of technology out there. For all the recognition Steve Jobs received over the years, I think the most powerful respect and attention he will receive will come from the next generation. I hope Apple can carry on his legacy that he left for this world to see.
